Grammy-nominated afroroots artiste, Rocky Dawuni, has said he is more focused on impacting society with his music than winning awards.
“Sorry my brother, I do music, not for awards,” the Ghanaian singer told Accra-based Asaase radio. “I do music because I believe in it.”
“I do music because it’s a mission,” Dawumi said. “So, everything that is added is just an attribute that comes with that. So, for me I don’t acknowledge and I don’t go trying to feel anyway when I am not awarded or nominated in certain sense.”
He added that awards do not validate his work.
“I think that the music itself is God’s award to me,” the two-time Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter said.
Dawuni has been nominated for the third time for the Grammy Awards with his song ‘Never Bow Down’ in the category of best global music performance.
The 65th Grammy Awards takes place on Sunday (5 February) in Los Angeles.
