Ghana’s incoming president John Mahama has continued on a comprehensive diplomatic tour across Africa, meeting with regional leaders and extending personal invitations to his upcoming inauguration.
In the final days before his inauguration, Ghana’s President-elect John Mahama has been conducting a series of diplomatic visits across Africa, emphasizing his commitment to regional cooperation and continental integration.
“My objective during my visit to various leaders to thank them and invite them to the Mahama inauguration on January 7 was to promote good neighbourliness and the benefits of a better interconnected and integrated continent,” Mahama stated in a recent social media post.
The president-elect’s diplomatic tour included meetings with President Denis Sassou Nguesso of the Republic of Congo and President Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Both leaders have reportedly accepted invitations to attend the upcoming inauguration ceremony in Accra.
The diplomatic initiative signals Mahama’s intention to prioritize regional cooperation during his presidency. His emphasis on continental integration suggests a potential shift toward stronger pan-African policies in Ghana’s foreign relations.
“Thank you, President Denis Sassou Nguesso and President Félix Tshisekedi, for your warm hospitality and engaging discussions,” Mahama acknowledged, adding that he looks forward to welcoming them to Accra.
Prior to his visits to both Congos, Mahama had already conducted diplomatic missions to several African nations, including Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Kenya, Gabon, and Namibia, where he personally extended invitations to their respective heads of state for the inauguration ceremony.
The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to take place on January 7 in Accra, where several African heads of state and international dignitaries are expected to attend.
