Luis Suarez has announced that he has signed a pre-agreement to join Uruguayan giants Club Nacional de Football this summer.
The 35-year-old forward started his professional career at Nacional way back in 2005, making 34 appearances and scoring 12 goals for the club before moving to Dutch side FC Groningen.
Suarez would go on to spend trophy-laden years at Ajax, Liverpool, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid – winning seven league titles and the UEFA Champions League – before his final contract at a European club (Atleti) expired at the end of the 2021/22 season.
The Uruguayan announced his return to Nacional and South American football on Twitter, saying: “I’ve now reached a pre-agreement in order to join Nacional, it was impossible for me to say to this opportunity.
“I hope final details will be resolved soon in order to complete the deal officially.”
The forward is set to join the most successful club in Uruguayan football history, with club having won a remarkable 48 league titles and three Copa Libertadores. Last season, Nacional finished second in the Primera Division, but are currently top of Group B this season after seven games.
