New KRC Genk coach, Wouter Vrancken has expressed his desire to see Nigeria forward Cyriel Dessers stay at the club amid rumours linking the forward away from the Belgian club.
Dessers returned to Genk after impressing on his loan stint with Eredivisie side Feyenoord Rotterdam.
New Genk coach Vrancken said he wants to keep the 27-year-old at the club despite transfer speculations linking the Nigerian international with a move away from Genk.
“He (Dessers) came in here the right way. Cyriel is Cyriel. He confirms the positive stories I have heard about him,” he said, as per HLN.
“In terms of mentality, you will have no problems with him. Obviously, I hope he stays. I haven’t specifically talked to him about the future yet, but the intention is to do so today or tomorrow.”
Dessers starred in the maiden UEFA Europa Conference League, netting 10 goals to finish at the apex of the competition’s top scorer’s chart.
He also guided the Rotterdam-based club to the grand finale of the Conference League, losing by a lone goal to Jose Mourinho’s Roma.
The Dutch-born Nigerian also scored 21 goals in 46 appearances for Feyenoord in all competitions last season.
