The Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, has arrived in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital, in preparation for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifying match scheduled for Tuesday.
The delegation, led by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, reached the Rwandan capital on Sunday evening.
The travelling party comprises 23 players, team officials, and NFF executives, all gearing up for the crucial second qualifying match for the AFCON tournament set to take place in Morocco.
Manager Augustine Eguavoen says his squad has “momentum” as they prepare for Tuesday’s match against the Amavubi at the Amahoro Stadium.
“We have the right mentality now, and the mood in camp is excellent,” Eguavoen told BBC Sport Africa. “Everyone is eager for us to pick up the three points in Rwanda and stay firmly on top of the qualifying table.”
Captain William Ekong emphasised the team’s focus: “Our target is the three points, and we’ve spoken among ourselves about the importance of going hard for it from the first whistle.”
The Super Eagles are looking to build on their strong start to the qualifying campaign, having won their opening match.
Rwanda, who held Libya to a 1-1 draw in their first qualifier, are expected to provide stern opposition.
The match kicks off at 14:00 GMT on Tuesday.
Nigeria’s arrival in the Rwandan capital comes as they aim to secure their place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, to be held in Morocco.
