Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged African nations to reject tribalism and work together to strengthen the continent.
Tribalism remains a significant challenge in many African countries, including Nigeria, where ethnic divisions have long influenced politics and social dynamics.
Speaking at a state dinner in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, Mr Tinubu said: “Tribalism has no place in our nation or region. We have to strengthen the continent. Cultivate and maintain peace together and help one another.”
The remarks came during the president’s official visit to the Central African nation, where he was honoured at the People’s Palace.
Mr Tinubu’s call for unity echoes a growing sentiment among African leaders for increased cooperation and reduced ethnic tensions.
The Nigerian leader, who took office in May, has been pushing for greater integration within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
His comments reflect a desire to position Nigeria as a leading voice in pan-African affairs.
As Africa faces various economic and security challenges, Mr Tinubu’s message underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing these issues.
