Head coach Bankole Olowookere has called up 35 players to the Nigeria U-17 women’s football team, known as the Flamingos, as they begin preparations for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The tournament is set to take place in the Dominican Republic from 16 October to 3 November.
The Flamingos impressed during the qualifying rounds, scoring 25 goals in six matches. They defeated the Central African Republic 12-0 on aggregate, Burkina Faso 7-1, and Liberia 6-1.
Harmony Chidi, who netted an remarkable 13 goals during qualification, headlines the squad. Other key players include striker Peace Effiong, captain Taiwo Afolabi, goalkeeper Chrstiana Uzoma, and defender Prisca Nwachukwu.
The World Cup matches will be held in Santiago de los Caballeros and Santo Domingo.
Nigeria will be aiming to improve on their quarter-final finish in the previous tournament, held in India in 2022.
