Rosemary Chukwuma of Nigeria put on a blazing display of speed at the Big 12 Championships in Texas, winning the women’s 100m final in dominant fashion.
The 22-year-old clocked an impressive season’s best time of 11.12 seconds to take the conference title.
Chukwuma burst out of the blocks and quickly separated herself from the field. She crossed the line well clear of second place finisher Iyana Gray of Kansas State, who clocked 11.24 seconds.
Kevona Davis of Texas finished third in 11.32s.
With her blistering time of 11.12, Chukwuma eclipsed her previous season’s best of 11.18 set at the Michael Johnson Invitational in April. The Nigerian national record in the 100m is 10.90 seconds.
Chukwuma, who competes for the University of Texas, has emerged as one of the NCAA’s top sprinters this season.
Her 100m championship adds to an impressive campaign that also includes wins at the Texas Relays and Texas Invitational.
She carries this momentum into the NCAA Outdoor Championships in early June.
