Nigerian sprinter Seye Ogunlewe kicked off his 2024 season in style, winning the men’s 100m final at the PUMA Fast Arms Fast Legs Meet in Wetzlar, Germany on Saturday.
Ogunlewe clocked a wind-legal 10.19 seconds (+1.0 m/s) to take the victory. He had earlier equalled his season’s best of 10.16 seconds in the heats.
Germany’s Robin Ganter finished a close second in 10.20 seconds, while Britain’s Ojie Edoburun took third place in 10.24 seconds in the tight finish.
The 25-year-old Ogunlewe was representing Nigeria at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver level meet. His winning time of 10.19 stakes an early claim as one of the world’s top sprinters this season.
Ogunlewe will look to build on this performance as he targets the Paris 2024 Olympics later this summer. The men’s 100m final in Paris promises to be one of the marquee events at the Games.
Ganter and Edoburun also showed good early-season form by joining Ogunlewe under 10.25 seconds in sunny conditions in Wetzlar.
The PUMA Fast Arms Fast Legs Meet continues on Sunday with the women’s 100m final among the highlighted events.
