Nigerian sprinter Chidi Okezie has won Heat 2 of the Men’s 400m event at the 2024 African Senior Athletics Championships in Douala, Cameroon, with a time of 46.16 seconds.
It comes just a week after his remarkable achievement at the Edmonton Athletics Invitational in Canada, where he clocked 44.97 seconds in the men’s 400m. That time secured his qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The championships began on June 21 and will conclude on June 26, 2024.
The 23rd African Senior Championships provide athletes with an additional opportunity to meet Olympic qualifying standards. Okezie, having already qualified, is using this event to further hone his competitive edge against top African talent.
As the championships progress towards the June 26 conclusion, Okezie will be looking to advance through the rounds in the 400m event. His recent performances have established him as one of the athletes to watch in this competition.
