The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have announced Hossam Hassan as the new national team head coach.
Rui Vitoria was sacked by the EFA just hours ago following Egypt’s disastrous campaign at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Pharaohs failed to win a single game throughout the tournament and were eliminated in the round of 16 after losing a penalty shootout to DR Congo, which led to Vitoria’s dismissal.
Despite rumours of former Ivory Coast and Saudi Arabia boss Herve Renard potentially taking charge of Egypt, it seems the EFA had other ideas with the appointment of the ex-Smouha and Al Masry manager Hossam Hassan.
”𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥! From legend on the field to leader from the dugout. Hossam Hassan ultimate dream come true as he takes the helm of Egypt’s national team, bringing his passion and grinta to the forefront” the Egyptian FA announced.
