Burkinabe Football Federation has appointed Brama Traore as the new head coach of the Stallions.
He has been appointed to replace the French tactician Hubert Velud who took Burkina Faso to the 2023 AFCON and exited in the Round 16 by losing 2-1 to Mali.
The “Professor” as he is affectionately known has vast experience in Burkina Faso football as he has once coached the U20 and U23 national teams.
THE GOALS SET FOR BRAMA TRAORE BY THE FBF
Qualify the Stallions to CAN 2025:
Brama Traore has been tasked to qualify Burkina Faso for the 2025 AFCON to be played in the summer of 2025 in Morocco.
Qualify the Stallions for the 2026 World Cup:
The Stallions have never been to the FIFA World Cup in their entire history but Brama Traore is charged with qualifying Burkina Faso for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be played in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Rejuvenate the Team
Also, Brama Traore is told to use his experience to rejuvenate the team. The Burkinabe Football Federation believe the team lacked the energy and vigour at the last AFCON and hence, Brama Traore is charged with bringing back new energy in the playing body especially.
Attracting Binational players
Attracting binational players is also another task given to Traore. It has become the new norm as almost the entire African continent is now getting the signatures of players born and bred in Europe with African roots. Burkina Faso has not gotten many and Brama Traore has been told to attract and convince players who have their roots from Burkina Faso.
Instill Discipline in the Team
The 60-year-old is tasked to instil discipline in the team as Burkinabes believe the indiscipline in the national team is part of the reasons why they did not deliver in the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.
Length of the Contract
Brama Traoré will sign up for a long-term project, according to the FBF president, who has not yet revealed the length of his contract.
When will Brama Traore make his debut as the head coach
Burkina Faso will play against Niger in an international friendly in March as it will mark Brama’s debut as the head coach.
The biggest test will be on 5th June when the Stallions travel to Cairo to face Egypt in the 2026 FIFA World Cup MD3 of Group A.
