The head of South Africa’s Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) has outlined the unit’s progress in tackling high-profile cases during a media briefing.
Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya and his management team presented an overview of the DPCI’s achievements in the second quarter of the 2024/2025 financial year.
The briefing focused on the directorate’s successes in investigating national priority offences and apprehending individuals involved in significant criminal cases.
‘Significant inroads’ made in pursuing justice
According to the DPCI, also known as the Hawks, “significant inroads” have been made in arresting those implicated in high-profile cases. The unit emphasised its commitment to ensuring accountability and justice for victims.
Lt Gen Lebeya highlighted several key areas where the directorate has made progress, although specific details of ongoing investigations were not disclosed.
The DPCI’s efforts come amid ongoing concerns about crime rates in South Africa and calls for more effective law enforcement.
The briefing serves as a quarterly update on the directorate’s performance, allowing the public and media to assess its effectiveness in combating serious crime in the country.
