Sudan kicked off their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Niger at the Juba National Stadium on Wednesday.
Striker Abo Eisa scored the decisive goal in the 51st minute to hand the home side all three points in their Group F opener.
It was a fairly balanced encounter, with both sides creating an equal number of chances in the opening half but denied each other with solid defending and goalkeeping from opposite ends.
Sudan, who failed to qualify for the previous AFCON held in Ivory Coast, will be hoping this result sets them on course to reach the continental showpiece under the guidance of Ghanaian coach Kwesi Appiah.
The Sudanese now sit top of Group F, with Ghana and Angola set to face off on Thursday.
