The Gwagwalada-Kukwaba-Apo 132KV Transmission Line 1 in the Abuja area was attacked by suspected vandals over the weekend, The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported.
In a press statement released on Monday, TCN said that two towers (Tower 23 and Tower 25) along the high-voltage 132kV transmission line were deliberately damaged on Sunday, causing a disruption in power supply.
“The vadalisation of the line is suspected to have taken place about 1am on Sunday, December 10th, 2023, when bulk power supply on the line was cut off, necessitating an early morning investigation by TCN linesmen, said the statement released by Ndidi Mbah, the TCN General Manager, Public Affairs.
According to TCN, engineers have been mobilized to the site to assess the full extent of the damage and commence repairs immediately.
However, Mbah’s statement in that the nature of the attack means restoration efforts may take some days before power supply can be fully returned to affected areas.
“Presently, TCN has restored power supply to Kukwaba Substation at 07:08PM as temporary solutions through Apo Substation,” he said.
“Arrangements are however ongoing to effect reports on the affected line.”
