Ghana’s opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has launched its manifesto for the 2024 elections, promising a $10bn infrastructure investment over five years.
The event took place at the University of Education in Winneba, Central Region, under the theme “Change To Reset Ghana”.
Former President John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s flagbearer, pledged to complete abandoned and ongoing projects rather than start new ones if elected.
“We will carry out an inventory of all hospitals, schools, electrification, water, and road projects that have stalled or been abandoned and make annual budgetary allocations for completing them,” Mr Mahama said.
Ghana has a history of unfinished projects following changes in government, including the $3bn STX housing deal and the controversial Saglemi Housing Project.
Mr Mahama was joined at the launch by his running mate, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
The party’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, said in a statement that the manifesto outlines plans to improve critical sectors of the country.
The NDC is seeking to return to power after losing to the New Patriotic Party in the 2016 and 2020 elections.
