Angola have strengthened their position at the top of Group F in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a 2-1 victory over Sudan in Luanda.
An 82nd winner from Nteke ensured the Palancas Negras grab a hard-fought victory to maintain their perfect start to the campaign with six points from two matches.
Veteran striker Mabululu opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 51st minute, but Sudan’s Mustafa Karshom levelled just four minutes later. Rayo Vallecano forward Randy Nteka then netted the winner via a deflection in the 82nd minute to break deadlock.
The win follows Angola’s surprise 1-0 triumph against Ghana at the Baba Yara Stadium, leaving them in a commanding position atop the group.
It however marks Sudan’s first competitive defeat of 2024 and sets up an intriguing double-header against Ghana in October.
Sudan, coached by former Ghana player and manager James Kwasi Appiah, currently sit second in the group with three points, while Ghana are third with just one point.
Earlier on Tuesday, Ghana’s Black Stars were held to a surprising 1-1 draw by Niger at a neutral venue in Morocco.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
