The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the full match schedule for the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, with the tournament set to begin on 2 August in Tanzania.
The opening fixture will see co-hosts Tanzania take on Burkina Faso at Dar es Salaam’s Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 20:00 local time (17:00 GMT).
The tournament, which features players who compete in their respective domestic leagues, will be staged across three East African nations for the first time in the competition’s history.
Kenya will begin their campaign on Sunday, 3 August, facing the Democratic Republic of Congo at Nairobi’s Moi International Sports Centre at 15:00 local time (12:00 GMT). Later that evening, Morocco will meet Angola at the Nyayo Stadium at 18:00 local time (15:00 GMT).
Sunday’s action will conclude back in Dar es Salaam, where Madagascar face Mauritania at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium at 20:00 local time (17:00 GMT).
Uganda, the third co-host nation, will open their account on Monday, 4 August, against Algeria at Kampala’s Mandela Stadium at 20:00 local time (17:00 GMT). The day’s earlier match will see Niger take on Guinea at the same venue at 17:00 local time (14:00 GMT).
The tournament will culminate with the third-place play-off in Kampala on Friday, 29 August, before the final takes place at Nairobi’s Moi International Sports Centre on Saturday, 30 August, both matches kicking off at 18:00 local time (15:00 GMT).
The CHAN tournament, established in 2009, is unique in African football as it restricts participation to players who compete in their home country’s domestic leagues, providing a platform for locally-based talent to represent their nations.
