Ghana’s Dreams FC made a strong statement in their CAF Confederations Cup campaign, claiming a 2-1 away victory over Malian side Stade Malien in the first leg of their Quarter-Final tie on Sunday.
Former Al Ahly striker John Antwi emerged as the hero for the Ghanaian club, netting a vital brace to overturn a one-goal deficit and give Dreams FC a slender advantage heading into the second leg in Kumasi.
Stade Malien drew first blood through Yoro Diaby’s 53rd minute strike, but Antwi equalized for the visitors in the 66th minute to level the scores.
The decisive moment came just seven minutes later when Dreams FC were awarded a penalty that the Ghanaian hitman coolly converted.
The 2-1 away win provides a crucial buffer for the Ghanaian side ahead of the second leg at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday, April 7th. However, Osei-Fosu remains wary of the threat posed by their Malian opponents.
Dreams FC have already defied expectations this Confederations Cup season, which is their first ever participation in any continental competition.
They are set to prolong their impressive run, and a progression past Stade Malien would set up a tantalizing quarter-final clash.
But first, the Ghanaian hopefuls must solidify their advantage on home soil next weekend.
