Emmanuel Mamah’s second-half goal gave FC Samartex a slim advantage over Victoria United in the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round tie.
The Ghanaian side secured a 1-0 away victory against their Cameroonian opponents at Douala’s Japoma Sports Stadium on Saturday.
Mamah found the net just two minutes after the restart, handing Samartex a crucial win in their maiden appearance in the continental competition.
The return fixture is set for next weekend at the Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana.
The victors of this tie will progress to face either AS GNN of Niger or Morocco’s Raja Casablanca in the second preliminary round.
Raja have put themselves in a strong position, having secured a 2-1 away win over AS GNN in their first-leg encounter.
Samartex will be keen to build on this promising start as they aim to make their mark in their debut Champions League campaign.
