President Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the heinous incidents of abduction involving vulnerable victims, including internally displaced persons in Borno State and students in Kaduna State.
Nigeria is gripped by outrage and concern following the abduction of over 280 pupils and teachers from a secondary school and primary school in Kaduna State, as well as the kidnapping of 200 internally displaced women in Borno State by insurgents.
In a firm stance against such abominable acts, the President has directed security and intelligence agencies to immediately rescue the victims and ensure that justice is served against the perpetrators.
Expressing his resolve to address these incidents, President Tinubu stated, “I have received a briefing from security chiefs on the two incidents, and I am confident that the victims will be rescued. Nothing else is acceptable to me and the waiting family members of these abducted citizens. Justice will be decisively administered.”
This directive was contained in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, on Friday, March 8, 2024.
The President’s strong words reflect the administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians, particularly those in vulnerable situations, such as internally displaced persons and students.
The abductions in Borno and Kaduna States have drawn widespread condemnation and heightened concerns over the security situation in various parts of the country.
On Thursday, bandits invaded the Kuriga area of the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, shooting at their victims before abducting at least 280 pupils and teachers from the Government Secondary School and LEA Primary School in the community.
The incident occurred barely 24 hours after insurgents abducted 200 internally displaced women in Ngala, the headquarters of Gambarou Ngala in Borno State, while they were fetching firewood in the bush.
The abductions have sparked national outrage, with several prominent organizations condemning the attacks and urging the government to take decisive action to secure the release of the victims.
The Jama’atu Nasril Islam, Amnesty International, the Parent Teacher Association of Nigeria, the Nigeria Union of Teachers, and the House of Representatives have all raised their voices against these abominable acts, calling for an immediate rescue operation.
President Tinubu extended his sympathies and assured them that their loved ones would soon be reunited with them. “The President sympathizes with the families of the victims, assuring them that they will soon be reunited with their loved ones,” the statement read.
