In an impassioned address to Rwanda’s newest military officers, President Paul Kagame urged them to embody the core values of discipline, selfless service, and excellence that define the nation’s armed forces.
Kagame’s remarks came during the Officer Cadets Commissioning Ceremony at the Rwanda Military Academy – Gako, where he oversaw the formal induction of young recruits into the Rwanda Defence Force.
“Carry forward the discipline that defines our armed forces,” Kagame told the graduating cadets. “Discipline, selfless dedication and ability do not only define who you are as individuals, they are also the values that define our nation.”
The Rwandan leader emphasized that these virtues were not just individual traits, but the very foundation upon which the country has been built.
He said the new officers would be strengthening the national character.
Kagame’s visit also included a tour of the academy’s recently upgraded facilities, including a new multipurpose hall, medical lab, and state-of-the-art smart classrooms. These investments are part of Rwanda’s efforts to ensure its military training institutions meet the highest standards.
The commissioning ceremony underscores Rwanda’s focus on cultivating a professional, values-driven military as a cornerstone of its national development.
By challenging the new officers to uphold disciplined excellence, Kagame is seeking to forge a stronger, more resilient Rwandan identity rooted in service and sacrifice.
