Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has emphasised Africa’s vast potential for investment, growth and development during a bilateral meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing.
Speaking at the talks on Wednesday, Mr Tinubu highlighted the continent’s vibrant population, productive economy and natural resources as key attractions for investors.
“Africa is a huge opportunity for economic development. As great people, we are willing to partner for progress and development,” he said.
The Nigerian leader called for a strategic focus on areas of collaboration to ensure mutually beneficial relationships, particularly through the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
“The African spirit for FOCAC is based upon mutual respect and partnership that promotes development, happiness, peace and stability for our people,” Mr Tinubu added.
He expressed appreciation for the warm reception extended to his delegation by the Chinese government, stating: “I thank you for receiving us warmly. I am happy, despite the jetlag; we were well received and we are ready to move the ball.”
Premier Li said China was prepared to work with Nigeria to deliver on the mutual understanding reached by President Xi Jinping and President Tinubu under the recently established comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.
Mr Tinubu is in Beijing for the ninth FOCAC summit, representing both Nigeria and his role as chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
