Four more nations have secured their places at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after Tuesday’s fourth round of qualifiers.
Senegal, DR Congo, Angola and Egypt joined hosts Morocco, who were already assured of participation but enhanced their campaign with a 4-0 victory over Central African Republic.
Algeria, Cameroon and Burkina Faso had already qualified in earlier matches.
However, four-time champions Ghana are facing a historic elimination after losing 2-0 to Sudan in Benghazi. The Black Stars, who have appeared in every tournament since 2004, are now winless in Group F and trail leaders Angola by 10 points.
Liverpool’s Sadio Mané scored deep into stoppage time to secure Senegal’s qualification with a 1-0 win in Malawi, while DR Congo secured their spot after Meschak Elia’s late double earned victory in Tanzania.
Angola qualified after Zini’s early goal proved enough against Niger in Casablanca.
Egypt became the eighth team to qualify after Ibrahim Adel’s late strike secured a 1-0 win in Mauritania.
In other significant results, South Africa’s hopes suffered a setback after a 1-1 draw with Congo in Brazzaville, while Sierra Leone dented Ivory Coast’s qualification hopes with a surprise 1-0 victory.
The scheduled match between Libya and Nigeria was cancelled after the Super Eagles were stranded at an airport and boycotted the fixture in protest.
The final round of qualifiers will take place in November 2024.
