Libya were held to a 1-1 draw by Rwanda in their Group D opener of the AFCON2025 qualifiers on Wednesday.
Young striker Sobhi Al Dawi put the hosts ahead in the 16th minute, giving Libya a dream start to their campaign. However, Rwanda fought back, with Innocent Nshuti finding the equaliser just two minutes after the half-time break.
The result leaves both teams with a point each as they begin their quest to reach the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, set to be held in Morocco.
Libya, led by players like Hamdou Elhouni and Muaid Ellafi, will be looking to build on this result in their upcoming matches. Rwanda, with talents such as Meddie Kagere and Yannick Mukunzi, showed resilience to earn a valuable away point.
The qualifying format for AFCON2025 sees the top two teams from each of the 12 groups advancing to the finals. Both Libya and Rwanda will be aiming to secure one of those coveted spots as the campaign progresses.
