Moroccan King Mohammed VI has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the members of the Moroccan national basketball team on their recent triumph in the “AfroCan 2023” tournament held in Angola.
The championship marked a significant milestone for Moroccan basketball as the team defeated Cote d’Ivoire with a 78-76 score in an outstanding display of talent and resilience.
In a message addressed to the team, the king commended their remarkable achievement, describing it as an “honorable African recognition of Moroccan basketball.”
The monarch praised the collective efforts of all those who contributed to the team’s success, including the players, coaches, and the technical, medical, and administrative staff.
In addition, he lauded the sportsmanship and spirit of competitiveness that the Moroccan squad demonstrated throughout the stages of the African championship, saying that these qualities enabled the team to secure the continental title.
The King further expressed his best wishes for continued success, as well as offered his unwavering support for the team.

He highlighted that the win will serve as a “strong source of motivation for those in charge of national basketball to redouble their efforts to develop and promote this sport in our country.”
The Moroccan team received a warm welcome upon arriving at Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport on Monday.
Supporters eagerly awaited the team’s return, welcoming them with bouquets of flowers and performing the traditional “Dakka Marrakchia” music to celebrate their remarkable performance.
The AfroCan 2023 tournament took place in Luanda, the capital city of Angola, between July 8 and 16.
This remarkable achievement was further highlighted by two Moroccan players, Kevin Francischki and Jihad Bencheleka, who were named among the top five players of the tournament.
