Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced on Monday that the passport application automation process will begin operation on January 8, 2024.
Speaking while inspecting facilities of the Nigeria Immigration Service in Abuja, Ojo said set the ministry has commenced the training process that will lead to the live launching of the automation.
“We are good to go live. We are starting the training and on January 8, the solution will be live and direct for Nigerians to have a good feel, a sweet experience based on the Renewed Hope of Mr President.
“We have been able to reduce human contact in passport acquisition to the minimum.”
Ojo noted the automation will improve efficiency, reduce crowds at passport offices, and enhance the overall application experience.
He was accompanied to the inspection exercise by the Comptroller General of the Service, Wura-Ola Adepoju, on Monday,
The minister had confirmed that the Federal Government has been working to ensure a full automation system for passport applications across the country.
The automated system will enable Nigerians to complete all passport application steps electronically, from registering to making payments.
Applicants will be provided with allotted time slots for appearance at passport offices for capturing of biometrics data.
