The Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, have kicked off their preparations for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Benin Republic.
Twenty players took part in the squad’s first training session on Tuesday evening at the practice pitch of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The initial session was open to media and supporters, but subsequent training on Wednesday and Thursday will be held behind closed doors.
Three key players are yet to join the camp. Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho is expected to arrive on Wednesday, while Napoli striker Victor Osimhen and goalkeeper Maduka Okoye are set to link up with the team on Thursday.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to face the Cheetahs of Benin Republic on Saturday in their opening qualifier for the 2025 AFCON tournament.
