A three-storey building at Ita Faaji Market in the Lagos Island Local Government Area of Lagos State, has collapsed during a heavy downpour on Thursday, according to a report by the punch.
The building which was undergoing renovation work, collapsed amidst the heavy rainfall, but construction workers escaped unhurt, the report adds.
“A three-storey building under renovation at 24, Binuyo Street off Ita Faaji Market, Lagos, collapsed during a downpour. The few artisans on site escaped unhurt,”said a statement isued by the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, Magaret Adeseye,
Adeseye further disclosed that its personnel from Ebute Elefun Fire Station and other state emergency responders were at the scene of the collapse.
The LSFRS boss noted that the supposed cause of the collapse was unknown, adding that recovery operations had since been concluded.
The Lagos State Building Control Agency while condoling with the victims of the collapsed building blamed the “non-compliance on the vacation notice” on the part of occupants of the building. Emergency responders raced to the scene for a rescue mission following the incident.
